Happy World Backup Day!

Happy world backup day! Be prepared against data loss! March 31st is the day to backup and protect your data. If you haven’t been doing it all along already, now is the time!

With so much of our lives, photos, and videos being stored in digital form, it is important that we begin to make backups of our precious data.  Backing up your data is one of those easy-to-do procedures that many people ignore.

What is a backup?

A backup is a copy of all your important files and data. Anything from family photos, word documents, emails, videos, and more. You should not simply store all this important data in one place. You should keep a copy of everything, and as a best practice, you should keep at least TWO copies of everything.

But why should I backup?

People lose files every day, from ransomware attacks, storage/ drive failures and simple accidental deletion. In fact, it is far more common than you think! One small accident or failure could destroy a lot of important stuff that you care about.

According to worldbackupday.com:

21 % of people have never made a backup

113 Phones are lost or stolen every minute

29% of data loss cases are caused by accident

30% of all computers are already infected with malware

So how do I protect my data?

worldbackupday.com provides some excellent links to products you can use to make backups personally.

If you are working in a business, you should:

  • Tell your bosses & colleagues about the importance of data backups.
  • Check your backup procedures & restores to make sure everything is up-to-date and working
  • If you don’t have one, fix it! Create a company data backup and continuity plan
